my mom Told me.....

- they've clipped Max's tongue. WHAT! he wasn't nursing very well. HUH?
Then I see pics of the babies in the hospital - fresh from the O.R. before my Sister has even been wheeled back yet ----- SOOTHERS IN THEIR MOUTHS!

and everyone there have a great time cuddling and holding the babies - before my Sister!
Sister did mention that when I spoke with her. She was pretty pissed and I don't blame her one bit.

My friends baby had to have the same thing done last yr when he was born- couldn't suckle properly. I hear its quite common.

I have never heard of that! Sounds weird.

Liam had a tongue thing and they wanted to clip it but it is the parents decision, I didn't do it with Liam I figured he would get hungry and figure it out and he did!

Charlotte too - she did fine.
but it is a parents decision and if they feel the baby won't be ok, then I guess they are the ones that are there and have to make the decision thats right for them. Maybe if it had been me, and I'd seen the tongue I may have made the same decision. Dunno........
parents have more rights and say in the hospital than they know they do. Its a breakdown in communication thing that usually happens.
C-sections are very different.
I am sure if Wood had known more and been able to feel aggressive about it, the soother thing and the passing of the babies wouldn't have happened the same way.
being first time parents........ its tough.....there's lots you don't know and lots that you don't want to make mistakes with so you TRUST the people that are taking care of you.
For me ........
i had a natural birth and while the doc was doing his thing with my nether regions i held Charlotte and didn't let her go!
As a matter of fact I didn't let her go for hours. Sleeping with her on the boob when she was hours old. One of the nurses coming in to try to get me to put her in the crib that was next to my bed and I refused. My nurse coming in seeing the situation and letting me be. Its about knwoing whats right for you and being aggressive about it.
if i had another ....... it might not be the same way ...... dunno .....
i just think its ironic that the comment about babe having a hard time latching and a soother was placed in his mouth before he had the chance to let his own animal instincts run with the boob. I would speculate to say that he probably wouldn't have had a hard latch if his first experience with something in his mouth wasn't fake.
but we'll never know. I just hope its all working good now for the wee boy

They use the soother to see if the baby CAN suckle from what my friend told me. It's a 'test" they do when they notice the baby isn't getting any food from the boob.

Neither of my kids would touch a soother! They spit it out and gagged. And neither of them had a super good latch day 1. It wasn't till my milk came in they really latched well.

Avery hated soothers too! They say breast is best, if you can.
